TOMORROW NEVER DIES (1997)

***

This film contains several fine elements but fails to gel as a whole. Brosnan's performance is superb and it's obvious that he's having a great time as Agent 007. Michelle Yeoh's Wai Lin is the film's true highlight and her character's involvement alongside 007 is a joy to watch. Terry Hatcher is totally wasted here and it is a shame because she and her huge fan base deserved more than what is found here. What hinders the film is its rather hurried feel and its rapid-fire kinetics that appear to be aimed at the MTV generation. No need for all of that dialogue and character development that "slowed down" GOLDENEYE, the filmmakers seem to be saying here. However, it is brilliantly ironic to have the Bond villain in this film be a manical Rupert Murdoch-type media mogul who wants to start World War III (with exclusive media coverage rights, of course!).
